Jim Holl bio

Painting is central to Jim Holl’s activity. His art is driven by themes that are also manifested in sculpture, photography and at times performance. He is a graduate of Columbia University and The University of Washington.
Jim maintains studios in New York City, Catskill, New York and Manchester, Washington. Jim is a Professor of Art, directing the Graphic Design Program at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.
Holl exhibited and had a studio at P.S.1, and exhibited a solo show at the New Museum, where he served on the museum’s artist advisory board. He has shown at important alternative spaces such as Artist’s Space and 55 Mercer.
Holl participated in the seminal 1980 Times Square Show and Creative Time’s Art on the Beach. Against a background of two decades of art events and theories, Jim Holl’s new book from CHARTA art book publishers, “The Landscape Painter” reflects on his artistic journey. The book is available on Amazon.com.
