Philip Govedare bio

For many years Philip Govedare showed at Francine Seders Gallery from 1994 until the gallery closed in 2013. His work was also included in numerous thematic exhibitions focusing on landscape and environmental issues, among them "Commentaries: Artists Respond to the Land" at Prographica Gallery (2012), "Uncommon River" at the Pritchard Art Gallery at the University of Idaho (2011) and "Critical Messages: Contemporary Northwest Artists on the Environment" which toured multiple Northwest museums in 2010 and 2011. Govedare has lectured extensively on his view of contemporary landscape painting, most recently "Evolving Interpretations of Wilderness" for Prographica's "Commentaries" show and the Association of American Geographers (both 2012), "Art and the Politics of Landscape" for the Association of American Geographers (2011), and "Altered Landscapes" at the UW Rome Center and the Geography and Humanities Symposium at the University of Virginia and Monticello (both 2007). He lives and works in Seattle where he is a professor at the University of Washington. www.philipgovedare.com
