This show is built on the formal assumption that grays are made of color and that color is fundamental to the visual understanding of the work. In this approach to painting color is, of course, important for the formal description of space and volume; it has added importance for the artist’s expressive intention, an intention that can only be achieved through the use of color at the “low end.”
The artists featured in the show are Hilary Brace, Kimberly Clark, Ann Gale, Michael Howard, Amy Huddleston, and Jordan Wolfson.
