The artists in this exhibition are generally considered "realists" and they are using their personal observational conventions. However, in this case, they are creating their art with an emphasis on the abstract.
That is: while maintaining a consistent stylistic approach to their art, these artists are "leading" with abstraction and allowing the subject matter to come almost as a "back beat". Their work remains stylistically coherent whether they are emphasizing "realist" or "abstract" considerations. This approach is intellectually and formally challenging, allowing for considerable expressive range and visual invention of a very high order.
